Henbane, The Witches Plant

Henbane, also known as the ‘witches’ plant, is an herb that was commonly used in witchcraft during the middle ages.

Watercolor, gouache, graphite & metal leaf on Arches cold press watercolor paper mounted on matboard.

Henbane, also known as the ‘witches’ plant, is an herb that was commonly used in witchcraft during the middle ages. It was used in potions, tinctures, and balms and is known to cause hallucinations and a sensation of flying, aiding witches in their divination work and other rituals.

For this piece I painted and hand cut out the multiple layers then assembled them spacing them out in a shadow box style frame to give more dimension. I love to play around with paper cut techniques and creating more three dimensional work in my personal pieces.
